Rose Meza Harrison Criticizes Farenthold for Playing Politics with Wind Jobs Farenthold supports raising taxes on wind energy producers
September 30, 2012 - Corpus Christi, TX - Rose Meza Harrison, a Democratic candidate for US Congress in District 27, today criticized Rep. Blake Farentholds position on the Wind Energy Tax Credit. We need a representative in Congress who is focused on creating more jobs not destroying the ones we already have, said Rose Meza Harrison, Democratic Candidate for Congress. Raising these taxes threatens over 1000 local, non-outsourceable jobs, she continued. Over the past several weeks Congressman Farenthold has defended his position, by claiming that he doesnt want to pick winners and losers in the energy market, but voted for over $4 billlion in subsidies for the oil industry. Last year the three largest recipients of these subsidies reported over $80 billion in annual profits. According to their website, the Port of Corpus Christi serves as the largest facilitator of wind turbine movement in the state. Federal production tax credits for wind projects have created a favorable investment climate for large wind farm developments in Corpus Christi's neighboring counties, components of which continue to move via Port of Corpus Christi, reads a message posted online from Corpus Christi Port Chairman, Mike Carrell. The Sierra Club, and other organizations have publically pressured Farenthold to support extending this tax credit.
