Since the late 1960s Saipem has steadily enhanced its worldwide reputation as one of the leading innovators in the oil and gas industry. Over the years, it has been increasingly involved in the construction of onshore and offshore plants all over the world. In the offshore sector in particular, it has progressively strengthened its capabilities as an end-to-end EPIC contractor. Benefiting from this experience, Saipems people have developed a unique perspective which is strongly reflected in the philosophy found in their construction yards. The groups yards are pivotal to almost all its activities since they supply the critical fabrication competences to the integrated project execution process. Saipems sites are multidisciplinary fabrication areas servicing all of the groups business units. This unique feature of serving several business units guarantees a continuous learning and sharing process to those involved and allows them to broaden their experience and to continuously develop their approach to new activities. Another fundamental characteristic of all of Saipems yards is their location: they are strategically positioned at the oil frontiers on three continents with a clear commitment to be permanent local players in each area. This is one of the key elements of Saipems mission: its ability to develop projects in remote areas in the most important oil and gas development provinces. This is achieved through a solid network of project support activities built on three fundamental core competencies: the capability to establish strong connections between local and corporate engineering, worldwide logistical support for personnel, assets and project materials and, finally, a recognised capacity to locally manage the wide-ranging challenges that have to be faced in these developing environments.
