Ellen Childress Class of 2012

"Goodbye to OHS from the Last Class" Being an Oakland Oak has been a tradition with my family for generations. My grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and my dad have attended Oakland High School. Now, my brother and I have also had the opportunity to acquire the OHS experience. When I think of Oakland High School, I think of a little family. The average size of a class is 22 people. For 12 years, you become close and almost "related." Tripping up the high school stairs, going into the awkward stall, guarding the class bulletin board from upper classmen, and having to shake the old vending machine just to get a snack are memories that I and many others will never forget from attending Oakland High School. The last thing I think about when I hear OHS is kindness. Every teacher and staff member is there for your benefit. They will assist you whenever you need anything. They are there to help you achieve your goals and, if nothing more, be a friend that you can talk with. In my opinion, I have received the full Oakland High School experience. And I wouldn't trade it for anything else in this world.

Submitted for the "OHS: 90 Years of Memories" event held May 12, 2012, to commemorate Oakland High School in Oakland, Illinois.
