AASL STANDARD: 3.1.4 Use technology and other information tools to organize and display knowledge and understanding in ways that others can view, use, and assess. AUDIENCE: The intended audience is my 7th grade self-contained class. The class consists of 12 students, ages 12 and 13. I have 5 girls and 7 boys on roster. Of these 12 students, six are Caucasian and six are African-American. Ten of the students are on free/reduced meals. The students are in seventh grade but their math and reading skills are several grades below this. Students should be able to use a computer and presentation software. Learning styles are represented by 7 visual learners, 2 auditory learners, 2 kinesthetic learners and one student with autism that we have not successfully labeled yet. MOTIVATION (ARCS Model) Attention: Im using questions for the students to answer. The questions will be asked by other students or staff members. This should grab their attention as it uses variability and inquiry arousal. Relevance: Since it will similar to Jeopardys video answer segments, it is something students should have seen before and will relate back to the current unit we are studying. Confidence: Students will have personal control in creating the project which will heighten their sense of confidence and increase chances of success. Satisfaction: I want my students to be motivated so to that end, they will have natural and positive consequences. With everyone given the same tasks and requirements, students see that everyone has an equal chance at success and should feel satisfaction in their performance. OBJECTIVE: Given the video and project materials, students will create 5 question/answer cards with questions/answers being correct 80% of the time for our cell units Jeopardy game.
