Mike Miller, Jr., President of the Senate SPONSOR: Yi Xu, Treasurer, St. Marys College of Maryland A Resolution Concerning SMOKING DISTANCE FROM A BUILDING WHEREAS: Smoking is banned in public buildings, and; WHEREAS: Smoking near buildings still affects people who are walking in and out of the building from secondhand smoke, and; WHEREAS: Secondhand smoke kills 53,800 people around the world every year, and; WHEREAS: Keeping smokers a certain distance from public buildings will decrease the effects of secondhand smoking, and; THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED: That the Maryland Student Legislature urges the Maryland General Assembly to pass legislation prohibiting smoking within 20 feet of any public building.
