a Redress of Grievances WHEREAS: It is a fundamental tenet of American democracy that citizens be able to petition their government for a redress of grievances; and, House Bill 127 infringes upon that fundamental right by restricting that ability, requiring that petition signatures be handwritten, witnessed, and signed by a notary public;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED: That the Maryland Student Legislature urges the Maryland General Assembly to affirm the right of the citizens of Maryland to petition their government for a redress of grievances by refusing to pass House Bill 127.
