Flyer Child Abuse
Last year, Contra Costa County received over 20.000 calls reporting suspected child abuse and/or neglect.
Consider these startling facts:
Research has demonstrated a strong link between abuse in childhood and poor school performance, increased violence, and unstable family situations. Children who have been abused are 50% more likely to commit serious crimes. For every $1 spent on prevention, at least $4 in treatment costs are avoided.
Contributions to FACT will help support these programs for children and their families:
Services for families, children and teens with substance abuse and child abuse issues County-wide parent education classes in multiple languages Parenting education, support groups, and life-enhancement skills for pregnant and parenting teens Parent-choice subsidized child-care assistance to low income and homeless families School-linked counseling, conflict resolution and violence prevention programs Community education and treatment for child victims of sexual assault or domestic violence Support services for homeless families This is one of the most important
Private, nonprofit human service agencies are selected by a committee of county citizens appointed by the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors to make program and funding decisions.
