New York State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli Endorses Erie County Comptroller David Shenk DiNapoli cites Shenks financial experience and military leadership Erie County, NY Erie County Comptroller David J. Shenk received the endorsement of New York State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli today, adding to the numerous endorsements that he has received from other elected officials, unions and non-partisan groups such as the Good Government Club. Shenk has been Comptroller since February 2012. Prior to becoming Comptroller, he served as Clerk and Tax Collector for the Town of Boston from 1992 2012. In addition, he has been a member of the U.S. Army Reserves since 1988, and was deployed to the Middle East three times, during Operation Desert Storm (1990 1991), Operation Iraqi Freedom (2003) and Operation Enduring Freedom (2010-2011). As Comptroller he has implemented changes to the office, focusing on finding solutions, rather than finger pointing. David Shenk has an outstanding record of public service, said DiNapoli. He mastered the fundamentals of public finance during his twenty years as Boston Town Clerk and Tax Collector, and he defended our freedoms abroad as a member of the U.S. Army Reserves during three deployments. As Erie County Comptroller he hit the ground running, revamping the mission of the audit division, implementing a county-wide risk assessment matrix and conducting the first audit of the Erie County Water Authority in over a decade. The taxpayers of Erie County are well served by his combination of problem solving, political independence and courage. Shenk noted that I have often looked to Comptroller DiNapoli as an example of what a comptroller should be: a vigilant steward of the peoples money, who isnt afraid to take on entrenched interests and always takes the long view, rather than relying on short-term gimmicks. I am honored to have his endorsement. As Erie County Comptroller, David Shenk has made it his mission to guard the long-term fiscal health of Erie County. ###
