Objectives of the Study The objectives of the study are to: Identify the key objectives and functions of NHIS in Ghana To assess the commitment of managements to NHIS To determine the specific challenges of NHIS implementation in Ghana To identify the impact of NHIS on patients To determine the capacity of employees to implement NHIS To make appropriate recommendations to ensure effective implementation of NHIS in Ghana

Research Questions 1. What are the key objectives and functions of NHIS in Ghana? 2. What is the commitment of managements to NHIS? 3. What are the specific challenges of NHIS implementation in Ghana? 4. What is the impact of NHIS on patients? 5. What is the capacity of employees to implement NHIS? 6. What do you think should be done to ensure effective implementation of NHIS in Ghana?

Research Methods Survey design will be used for the study. The target population is the patients at La General Hospital seeking for treatment. Both primary and secondary data will be collected from the hospitals wards and OPD (Out Patients Department). A simple random sampling will be used to

select the respondents for the study. The list of the patients will be used for the selection. A questionnaire will be used to interview the respondents.

Tables and bar graphs will be used to explore the data while Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and chi-square test will be used for further analysis. SAS and Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) will be used to analysis the data.

Sketch of Data Analysis Cross tabulation will be used to assess the performance of NHIS. Strongly Agree, Agree, Not Sure, Disagree and Strongly Disagree will be used in the assessment. Stem and leaf plots will be used to give the pictorial view of the data. Principal Component Analysis will be used to reduce the challenging factors facing NHIS in order to identify the specific challenges. Chi-square test of equal frequencies will be used to determine the evenly distribution of the responses.
