divya.ahuja@hotmail.com Abstract Course designing and material production can be termed as an interrelated activity and there are many steps involved in the process. This paper will highlight the major steps involved in outlining the course design, which forms as the basis of the material production. Needs of the learners, the objectives and goals set forth for the programme act as the foundation for material production. Development of materials, its organization and evaluation are the other major steps to be considered in the course designing and material production. These steps are taken in the light of the case study of RIE Certificate Course in Personal Development a programme designed/organized by the Regional Institute of English, Chandigarh with assistance from Director Higher Education, Chandigarh. The designing of this programme and the production of the materials to be used for the same were structured on the 5 major steps talked about in this paper.
