JV Blue vs.

Dekaney 10/25 Thursday night the weather was beginning to feel a little more like football weather in Houston. The JV Blue team was prepared and ready for the Dekaney Wildcats from the first whistle to the final buzzer. The offense got rolling with some good runs and when the defense set them up inside the 10 yd. line of the Wildcats they punched it in on an Upchurch QB sneak. On another series, Hunt had a 25+ yard gain and Jack McHugh caught a pass for a first. But it wasnt until the closing seconds of the first half that the Kats scored again. It was on a 4th and long with seconds left. The coaches decided to go for it from the Dekaney 40. Upchurch threw a pass high to Tyler Halliday, his first game back since recovering from an injury, and Halliday out jumped the cornerback and went around the safety for a TD. It was the Kats 14-0 at halftime. In the second half, Hunt had scoring runs of 30+ and 65+ that really showcased the offensive lines blocking up front. Blocker got in on some of the great holes that were opened up and Upchurch had several runs of 5+ grinding it out on the ground. Doing the work in the trenches throughout the game was Smith, Kirincic, Babbitt, Stelter, Newton, Lusk and Coatney. The defense got another strong game from its squad and had shut out the Wildcats throughout the first half. Hunter Harris picked off a pass on the Wildcats first drive and returned it inside the 10. Mbonu, Morgan, and Bullock seemed to hang out in the Dekaney backfield making several tackles for losses. Morgan had back to back sacks on a series in the 2nd half! Safeties Gibson and Anderson made some great tackles stopping ball carriers and breaking up passes. The Wildcats tried hitting several long passes over the coverage and made some plays but the defense held up and kept the pressure on the QB forcing errant passes. Tim McHugh brought the pressure and hit the QB on several attempts forcing several hurries during the Cats final drives. To end the game, the Kats had a 4th and long with 11 seconds left. They punted to the Wildcats and there were 3 ticks still on the clock. It seemed a little scary with Halloween just around the cornerbut never fear when the Kats are near. The Wildcats last gasp was incomplete and the final score was Klein Bearkats 27 the Dekaney Wildcats 20. Next week, Klein Collins.
