Elons Department of Residence Life:

Residence Life is housed underneath its own branch which is supervised by Assistant Dean of Students, Niki Turley. Departmental Mission & Values Statement: o invested in a ONE * COMMUNITY * WORLD philosophy o Community o Mutual Respect o Service o Staff Development The Department is comprised of a Director, 2 Associate Directors, and 7 Assistant Directors. Campus is divided into 8 areas with staffs that included Housing Assistants (HA), Resident Assistants (RA) and Resident Area Coordinator (RAC). The Programming Model for the Department is: One. Community. World. Current departmental priorities include: Opening of new upperclassman housing facility, remodeling of North Area & Overall expansion of student body and housing needs for all students.

ACUHO-I Housing Operations Intern Responsibilities and Goals:

Process summer housing applications and make summer housing assignments Help manage housing assignments for incoming freshmen, including data entry Provide assistance as needed for closing procedures in the residence halls and apartments (ex: damage billing, walk-throughs) Create and maintain the early arrival spreadsheet by working with group advisors to coordinate arrival dates, collect student information, and keep residence life up-to-date. Act as liaison to staff and faculty to begin collecting early arrival information Other duties as assigned by the Associate Director of Residence Life Operations and Information Management.

Goals:
My goal was to gain experience with making first-year assignments as well data management systems (DATATEL/RMS). I also wanted to gain experience working with the parents of first year students and other customer service aspects of a professional position. I also sought out opportunities to work with RA training and Office Assistant trainings.

Overall Experience:
Elon University was a wonderful internship experience. If housing were an area in which I wanted to continue, I would certainly seek employment at Elon. Employees enjoy benefits such as local discounts, health care coverage, tuition remission and exchange and access to local resources. Through this experience, I did learn that I would like to work in an office with a similar environment. The work environment was conducive to both my professional and personal growth this summer. Elon / Burlington is home to about 50,000 residents. The area is quaint and offers a close enough proximity to other larger areas such as Greensboro and Raleigh to provide new professionals with a variety of options for their lifestyle. I would gladly recommend this internship to others.
