Temperature and zero law of thermodynamics:

to understand the concept of temperature,it is useful to define tow often-used phrases:

thermal contact . thermal equilibrium .

thermal contact:

we assume that tow objects are in thermal contact with each other if energy can be exchanged between them by these processes due to a temperature difference .

thermal equilibrium :

is a situation in which two objects would not exchange energy by heat or electromagnetic radiation if they were placed in thermal contact.

zeroth law of thermodynamics:

if objects A and B are separately in thermal equilibrium whith a third object C , then A and B are in thermal equilibrium with each other .

Thermometers and celsius temperature scale:

Some physical properties that change with temperature:

The volume of a liquid . The dimensions of a solid . The pressure of a gas at constant volume. The volume of a gas at constant pressure. The electric resistance of a conductor . The color of an object.

The celsius ,fahrenheit,and kelvin temperature scales:

Tc = T- 273.15 Tf = 9/5 Tc +32 Tc = T=5/9 tf

Freezing point and boiling point:

Example

(1) On a day when the temperature reaches 50 F , what is the temperature in degrees celsius and in kelvins ? ? ?

Solution :
TF = 9/5 Tc + 32 F Tc = 5/9 ( TF 32) = 5/9 ( 50 32 ) = 10 C

The End

Good luck
