Our first responders in Richmond risk their lives to protect ours every day.

So when an opportunity came for the Provincial Government to protect them, we acted. I had the pleasure of presenting copies of Bill 39-2012: The Emergency Intervention Disclosure Act, to our RCMP officers and Firefighters, here in Richmond. The new act provides peace of mind for our first responders and their families. Otherwise known as right to know Legislation, the Act allows our first responders to apply for critical health information if they suspect they have been infected in the line of duty. This will allow them to seek the appropriate measures to protect themselves and their families.

It was a pleasure to be on hand at the grand opening of the Arthritis Research Centre of Canada in Richmond, where the Illich Family donated the office space, in addition to a four million dollar donation, to continue their fight against Arthritis.

It was an honour to recognize Master Yuan of the Richmond Wellness Club for his 20 years of successfully keeping Richmond Seniors Active through the art of Tai Chi.

I was on hand to celebrate the Official Opening of the Avia Employment Services Centre in Richmond as part of the Canada Starts Here BC Jobs Plan, that help constituents find jobs that fit their skills and training. The Premier visited the BCIT Aerospace Campus and launched a comprehensive plan to expand skills training, and align these programs with job opportunities. This will help job seekers, and meet the needs of a changing economy. The new plan ensures todays training matches tomorrows careers. The plan puts $75 million into improving training facilities and equipment. It will also ensure the availability of technical education teachers to reduce the time required to achieve certification while maintaining the high standards required by employers.
