Feature

Why, this was included in the Articles of Confederation

They did not want one person to have all of that power

Lack of leadership from central government. No single leader for the government.

Laws needed approval by nine of The thirteen states

Wanted to protect individual states power. Fear of a strong central government.

It will make some laws very hard to pass, even harder than it usually is.

Congress did not have the power To tax citizens

They didnt want the congress the power to be able to tax and take the money away from the colonists without it being fair. Fear of a central government with a strong army that might take away citizens rights. Fear of a central government with a court system that might be unfair to the rights of states Wanted to make sure that if they changed the articles that it would be fair to everyone and everyone agrees to it. Fear of a strong central government that could force states to pay for things that they dont want They didnt want to have to pick sides in between the states.

States often chose not to pay taxes, and the federal government didnt have the funds to operate effectively. If they dont have an army they cant protect themselves from other countries.
