    The U.S. Geological Survey estimated that 110,000 tons of primary magnesium metal was produced throughout the world in 2010, which did not include the United States and China. The China Magnesium Association (CMA) reported that 654,000 tons of primary magnesium was produced in 2010. It is estimated that the U.S. produced approximately 45,000 tons of primary magnesium in 2010. Thus, total 2010 production of primary magnesium in the world was approximately 809,000 tons.
