SEHS Library Media Program Self-Evaluation assignment

As part of my practicum in the SEHS Media Center, I was asked to complete a Georgia DOE 2012 Library Media Program Self-Evaluation Rubric. I am happy to report that the SEHS Media Center rated Exemplary in most categories. It is clear that Ms. Olivier, Alford, and Kessler do a wonderful job for SEHS, the students, and the staff. As part of this evaluation, I have been asked to suggest action steps to improve any target item found to be in the basic category. The only item found to be in the basic category is item 7b in Category 2 staffing. This item is listed as basic because the Media Center staff is asked to perform duties outside of the media center. In order for this item to be rated as proficient, the media center staff should not be required to perform duties on a daily or frequent basis. There were only two items rated as proficient. Item 10 in category 3 states that the Media Center has a whiteboard and that it is used on a regular basis. While the media center does not have a white board, they do have access to the mobile version (i.e. Interwrite pad). Using the Interwrite pad during presentations and day to day functions should allow for this item to move into the exemplary category. Item 17 in category 4 deals with the library media center policy and could be moved from proficient to exemplary by having the policy reviewed and updated on a yearly basis. Overall, the SEHS Media Center is exemplary! Ms. Olivier and the Media Center staff should be commended for their hard work and encouraged to continue to strive for excellence.
