Max Marks: 80

Answer any FIVE questions All questions carry equal marks **** (a) Define mass density, weight density, specific volume and specific gravity. (b) A 30 cm diameter shaft revolves in guide bearing of 60cm long at 500 r.p.m. If the oil film bearing is 0.13 mm and viscosity of oil is 0.05 Ns/ m2, find the power absorbed.

(a) Find the total pressure and the depth of centre of pressure on an inclined plane surface submerged in liquid. (b) Explain about total pressure and centre of pressure.

(a) What is flow net and what are the uses of flow net? (b) What are the limitations of flow net?

(a) Derive an expression for the force exerted by a following fluid on a pipe-bend. (b) A pipe diameter 500 mm carries water at a velocity of 25 n/s. The pressure at the points A and B are given as 30.43 N/cm2 and 20.5 N/cm2 respectively. While the datum head at A and B are 28 m and 32 m. Find the loss of head between A and B.

Explain boundary layer thickness, displacement thickness, momentum thickness and energy thickness. Water flows at a steady mean velocity of 1.5 m/c through a 50 mm diameter pipe sloping upwards 450 to the horizontal. At a section some distance downstream of the inlet the pressure is 700 kpa and at a section 30 m further along the pipe the pressure is 462 kpa. Find the average shear stress at the wall of the pipe and at a radius of 10 mm. (a) What is a compound pipe? Explain in detail. (b) Explain pipes in parallel.

(a) What is Cipolletti weir? (b) Find the discharge over a cipolletti weir of length 2.0 m when the head over the weir is 1 m. Taked Cd = 0.62.
