    Archaeological findings show that Homo erectus inhabited Indonesia as early as 2 million to 500,000 years ago, as evidenced by discoveries of "Java Man". Indonesia was later influenced by Buddhist and Hindu kingdoms from India between 100-200 AD and 1331. Starting in the 13th century, Indonesia experienced influence from Islam from Gujarati and Persia. Portugal established the first colonial presence in 1512 through Christianity.     ARCHEOLOGICAL FINDING:
    Pithecanthropus erectus (or “Java Man”, part of the species Homo
    erectus) was found in the island of Java in 1934. It is believed that the
    “Java Man” inhabited Indonesia as early as two million to 500,000
    years ago.

    INFLUENCES:
    – Buddhist Kingdoms: 100-200 AD from India. Sailendra.
    Borobudur.
    – Hindu Kingdoms: 1331. Majapahit.
    – Islam: 13th century from Gujarati and Persia
