ARCHEOLOGICAL FINDING:
Pithecanthropus erectus (or “Java Man”, part of the species Homo
erectus) was found in the island of Java in 1934. It is believed that the
“Java Man” inhabited Indonesia as early as two million to 500,000
years ago.

INFLUENCES:
– Buddhist Kingdoms: 100-200 AD from India. Sailendra.
Borobudur.
– Hindu Kingdoms: 1331. Majapahit.
– Islam: 13th century from Gujarati and Persia

THE COLONIAL TIME:


PORTUGUESE: 1512. Christianity
DUTCH: 1596; 1815. Spice Islands monopoly: Maluku and Banda
islands.
BRITISH: 1814

disadvantages occur? Give examples of any particular country.

4. How do you imagine Indonesia managed to gain independence in
1945? Remember that there are more than 17,000 islands there,
and at least 6,000 islands to organize.
5. What does democracy mean to you? How does it translate into
your everyday life?
6. What does Obama inauguration mean to you today? Please
explain.
7. Indonesia gained independence in 1945 and became a republic,
with a president as the head of the state, and democracy as part
of its five principles. Do you think it possible for an under
developed country to be democratic? Explain. Give other
examples.
8. Mention any country in the world that you think could enjoy
democracy the way you define it. Explain.
9. What do you think you can contribute to maintain democracy in
your own country?
