1 Percent for Watersheds

The McKenzie River Trust is the first recipient of Oakshire Brewing Co.s 1 percent for watersheds campaign. Oakshire Brewing is a local brewery located in Eugene, Oregon. On Friday, October 12, 2012, Oakshire announced that, in 2013, it will donate one percent of their brewery sales to Mckenzie River Trust as a support to McKenzie River Trusts interest in participating in Oregon Brewsheds Project. Oregon Brewsheds Project is a collaborative effort between Eugene Water and Electric Board, National Forest Foundation, the US Forest Services, the Oregon Brewers Guild, and the Oregon Association of Resource Conservation & Development Councils. The concept of this project is to engage Eugene water supplier, brewers and their customers to restore watershed health and to protect clean water together with organizations like McKenzie River Trust through a common purpose brews. Only the great quality of water can brew great brews in the nation. A big part of the success of Oakshire is the quality of the water we use to make our great brews, said Jeff Althouse, founder, Oakshire Brewing. Protecting the quality of the water we all drink as pure water or as one of our great local craft brews is important for the health and liveability of Eugenes citizens, said Moll, executive director, McKenzie River Trust. This partnership will benefit the McKenzie River watershed and has the potential to help protect watersheds across Oregon in the years to come. By donating 1 percent of our profits to protect the McKenzie River watershed, we are doing our part to ensure that this source of great water continues to help us produce great beer, said Althouse. In the years to come, we hope to encourage other craft breweries in Oregon to join our effort.
