Earlier this morning, on Thursday at 8 am, an eastbound freight train struck and killed a bicyclist, Water Fox, traveling

south. The investigator found that the train blew the whistle before reaching the crossing, and when the accident happened, Fox was wearing headphones. This indicates that the cause of the accident might associate to headphone wearing. Here are some bike safety rules from Eugene Police Department for bicyclists: Do not wear headphones or anything else that can impair your hearing Always obey all traffic signs and signals Ride with traffic, never against it Always look around often to scan behind and from side-to-side Always wear helmet Always keep both hands on the handlebars and ready to brake Do hand signals Dress light colored or optic-colored clothing, especially in bad weather Dress appropriately for biking and, at night, have a light on bike and wear reflective clothing When approaching an intersection or stopping line, make eye contact with auto drivers
