WEAR TEAL th Friday, September 14 For Sexual Assault Survivors

Sexual violence is a major social problem and a public health issue. -1 in 5 women and 1 in 71 men have survived a rape in their lifetime. Rape is not sex and is a form of power and control. Rape is rape and it's a crime. -Alcohol is never a cause of rape or an excuse for committing a crime. Approximately 90% of acquaintance rapes involve alcohol. When drugs and alcohol are involved, clear consent cannot be obtained. In Ohio, an intoxicated person cannot legally give consent. -Believe survivors. Between 92-96% of individuals reporting rape are telling the truth, which is consistent with the reporting of other crimes. Far too often, survivors do not report these crimes because they are frequently not believed and are blamed for a crime someone committed against them. When someone tells you they were raped, believe them. -Only between 20-40% of rapes are reported. In every community we must create a supportive culture that encourages reporting, supports survivors, and holds perpetrators accountable. Help Spread Awareness!
