Les Parties Du Corps One, or more? You have learned the names for individual body parts, but how do the names change when were talking about more than one of these parts? In English, when we want to talk about more than one body part, we often use s at the end of the word to show that its plural. One arm. Two arms. With many words, we do the same thing in French. Note that in French, the s at the end of a word is silent. Une oreille. Deux oreilles. Une jambe. Deux jambes. However, if a word already ends in s, there is no need to add another s. Also, some plural words in French end in an x instead of an s. Fill in the following table to help you remember these exceptions. English Word head hair eye nose mouth ear arm elbow hand finger leg knee foot chest French Word (One) une tte un cheveu un il un nez une bouche une oreille un bras un coude une main un doigt une jambe un genou un pied une poitrine French Word (Two or More) deux ttes des cheveux (des=some) trios yeux quatre nez cinq bouches six oreilles sept bras huit coudes neuf mains dix doigts onze jambes douze genoux treize pieds quatorze poitrines
