City
Concept Idea
Definition of City : an inhabited place of greater size, population, or importance than a
town or village.

I am interested in the idea of portraying a City or a Town by focusing on the patterns, shapes and lines created by houses and buildings to create a representation of a City as a unnatural space consisting of man-made structures and objects. I like the idea of eliminating beings from the images to emphasize the City as being life-less like inanimate objects.

Eugene Atget
Eugenes work inspires me because of how he has photographed the streets of Paris. The shapes of the buildings and the silhouettes create interesting visuals. The absence of life also creates a sense of loneliness and alienation which I think works well because it raises curiosity.

Naoya Hatekeyama
Composition creating a very interesting, Cubism-like effect. Filling up the image to produce illusion.

Friedlander
Lee Friedlander has a very natural approach when it comes to the practice of photography. His Architectural America series was quite interesting exploring through different cities capturing manmade structures.

Cubism
Early 20th century art movement.

Georges Braque

Final Contact sheet

My final images focus on the lines made out by the man-made structures and are taken in different angles to create varied compositions. I still need to do more shoots but looking at the contact sheet, images could even be silhouettes to enhance my concept of lines.

Landscape
Initial Idea

I am very interested in the life of Nature and how much has changed since the start of human life. The negligence of nature and taking it for granted. Over-looking it and not giving a second thought.

Friedlander
Over-looking nature in our everyday lives. His work makes me think as to why he has taken the image in such way and gets me to think which is why it is effective.

Lewis Baltz
Traces of nature and metaphorical way of portraying the decreasing natural resources.
