December 2012 Dear Queer Ontario Members, Friends, Followers, and Supporters, As we approach the 2012 holiday season, we have started to look back at the momentous year we have had, and some of the major actions we have taken. These include: Our push for the adopted amendments to Bill 13, which mandated LGBT student groups across all Ontario schools and explicitly recognized the support needs of bi and trans students. Our deputation in support of Bill 33 (Tobys Act), which contributed to the inclusion of gender identity and gender expression as protected grounds in the Ontario Human Rights Code. Our submission to ServiceOntario to challenge the governmental practice of using a persons birth-assigned sex to signify their gender identity. Looking forward to 2013, it is clear that we will need a sustainable body of funds to keep us going in this direction. Therefore, we are turning to you to help us develop it. If you are able to contribute, you can do so by: Visiting our Donation page at queerontario.org/donate and subscribing to a monthly donation program, ranging from $5 to $50 a month. Visiting our Donation page at queerontario.org/donate and making a one-time financial donation whatever amount you can afford. Mailing a cheque or money order to the address found in the header above. Some things we are hoping to cover for the 2013 year are: The costs associated with website maintenance and meeting broadcast. Transportation costs to continue our outreach work in cities across Ontario. The costs to put on our discussion-based Salons and other info-sharing events. Unfortunately, since political organizations like us cannot register as a charity, we cannot issue a tax receipt for your donation. Nevertheless, you can rest assured knowing that every penny will be used as carefully and as resourcefully as possible, just as we have been doing for the past two years. We thank you immensely from the bottom of our passionate, activist hearts, Nick Mul Queer Ontario Chair On behalf of the Queer Ontario Steering Committee
