HUACA CHOTUNA

The Huaca Chotuna is located 10 km west of Lambayeque. It is a platform made of mud bricks, it has a pyramidal form, it was a religious place and belongs to the culture Lambayeque and also it developed between the century VIII and IX. It has 70 meters long, 50 meters wide, 25 meters tall and is surrounded by 21 acres of building infrastructure that would have been audience saloons, warehouses, workshops, homes and cemeteries.

This Huaca Chotuna has an special meaning for the region Lambayeque, because is the place that identify with the known legend of Naylamp which point out that Naylamp arrived to the coast of the beach San Jose and then went for the river Faquisllanga to found the culture Lambayeque. According to the legend, Naylamp ordered to build a temple called Chot where he put a green idol of stone known like Llampallec.

Naylamp was a mythical character. When Naylamp died he raise like a bird and then he disappeared in the space.

Today the Huaca Chotuna is dreaded and respected because the people believe that Naylamp and some of his children still live in the underground of this Huaca. Archaeologists, on the basis of popular traditions and previous evidence, they say that in this place, called huaca is located the Palace of Cetemi. with base in this information, is assumed that her tomb could be there. the identification of body found will can - finally confirm the legend which thus becomes part of the history.
