NGCP inaugurates Balintawak Substation Control Center ahead of schedule The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) has completed construction of the power monitoring and control center located in its Balintawak Substation in Quezon City. Inaugurated last November 22, NGCP reported that the new facility was completed ahead of schedule and energized without any defects. The project consisted of constructing a new building to house new communication equipment, upgrading protection relays and secondary devices which strictly comply with Philippine Grid Code requirements. The Balintawak Substation supplies 785 megawatts (MW) or 13% of the 5,925MW requirement of Meralco, making the facilitys reliability critical to grid operations. The control center uses the supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system NARI Open3000, which acquires real-time data on power system parameters and provides monitoring and control of remote devices such as breakers. Equipped with a fire blocking system, power supply system, and battery bank with monitoring system, the facility is set to further strengthen grid stability particularly during peak hours. NGCP has lined up upgrading projects in various NGCP facilities in Mexico, Sucat, Compostela, and Davao to fulfill its commitment to the Filipino people to make the grid more reliable and efficient. NGCP is a privately owned corporation in charge of operating, maintaining, and developing the countrys power grid. It transmits high-voltage electricity through power superhighways that include the interconnected system of transmission lines and towers, substations and related assets. NGCPs regular maintenance activities, expansion and upgrading projects aim to enhance the reliability and quality of electricity delivered to customers. ##
