1. Read 1 Corinthians 1:10-17


 Background: After greeting the church in Corinth Paul informs the Corinthians that he has received word from Chloe’s people
about some of the problems their church is having. Remember, Paul hasn’t been back to Corinth since his first visit there 3-5
years ago. When he left them, they were full of God’s words, knowledge, and gifts (1:5,7). But now just a few years later,
they’re experiencing some major problems. One of the problems is division. They’ve divided into four groups of Christians –
Apollos followers, Paul followers, Cephas (Peter) followers, and Christ followers. They’ve each retreated to their corners and
look down on the other three groups. Paul reminds the believers that Christ cannot be divided; their unity must come from
Christ.

2. What kind of divisions do we see in the Church today? What do these


divisions do to the Church?

3. Why do divisions occur? What is at the root of divisions?

4. Read Isaiah 59:2


 According to this verse, what creates division between you and God?

 Is there a division between you and God right now? What is the only thing that will
remove that division between you and God? (Read 1 John 1:9)

 Write a short prayer asking God to show you any sins that are causing divisions
between you and Him – if He shows you any ask God for forgiveness.
