been reported. Saponins isolated from the seeds have been found to effect the cardiovascular activity in dogs and haemolytic activity in human beings. Spasmolytic activity in isolated ileum of guinea-pigs has also been recorded. Saponins from seeds also showed spermicidal activity.

febrifuge, antiseptic, blood purifier (used for venereal diseases), emmenagogue. Rootused in rheumatism and gout. Flowers and shootsdiaphoretic, given in fevers. An infusion of the plant is given to promote lochial discharge. The plant contains orientin (leteolin-C-glucoside), vitexin (apigenin-C-O-glucosides.

Theplant is cardiostimulant, also antibacterial.
