Vs Present Perfect Continuous

Formulation: Present Continuous:


I am Playing. You are playing. He/She/It is playing. We are playing. You are playing. They are playing.

Present Perfect Continuous:


I have been playing tennis. You have been playing tennis He/She/It has been playing We have been playing tennis. You have been playing tennis. They have been playing tennis.

Usage: Present Continuous Action in progress now:


I am talking to you.-Int Form:How about you,What are you doing now? Youre listening to me.-Int Form:How about me,am I listening to you now? Its raining.-Int.Form:And where you are its raining,is the sun shining?

Present Perfect Continuous: Action that started in the past and is still in progress:For How long?
Ive been talking to you for 5 minutes. Ive been talking to you since 11:30. Youve been listening to me for a few minutes. It has been raining all morning. It has been raining since I woke up.

Common mistakes:
People that are using Present Continuous instead of Present Perfect Continuous: Im working here for two years.(mistake)I have been working here for two years.(correct)(means that :how long) I study English for 6 months(mistake)I have been studying English for 6 onths.(correct) We are waiting since 2 Oclock.(mistake)We have been waiting since 2 oclock.(correct) He is doing his homework since he woke up.(mistake)He has been doing his homework since he woke up.(correct)
