Baseball has been reluctant to approve relocations. When the Montreal Expos became the Washington Nationals after the 2004 season, it was the first shift since the expansion Washington Senators transformed into the Texas Rangers in 1972. Asked whether the As would consider other relocation possibilities, Selig responded: Youd have to ask Lew Wolff. Thats really his decision to make. Twenty-three teams have opened ballparks since 1989, and the As and Tampa Bay are the only two teams still seeking new stadiums.

As mull move out of Bay Area

NEW YORK (AP) Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig says its up to Lew Wolff to decide whether to consider additional sites for a new ballpark for the Athletics, and the Oakland owner maintains hes focused on San Jose rather than a move outside the Bay Area. Speaking Thursday after a quarterly owners meeting, Selig said theres no timetable for resolving Oaklands dispute with the San Francisco Giants. The Giants are preventing the As from building a ballpark about 40 miles south of Oakland in San Jose, which is part of the Giants territory.

Upton, B-backs rock Rockies

DENVER (AP) Justin Upton hit a two-out, two-run homer off closer Rafael Betancourt in the ninth inning to help the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the Colorado Rockies 9-7 on Thursday. Upton sent a 93-mph fastball from Betancourt (1-1) over the right field fence for his first homer in two weeks. Willie Bloomquist and Ryan Roberts also drove in two runs apiece as the Diamondbacks won for the third time in 12 contests. J.J. Putz escaped a bases-loaded jam in the ninth by getting Ramon Hernandez to hit into a game-ending 5-4-3 double play for his seventh save in nine chances.

Saints Vilma sues Goodell for defamation

NEW ORLEANS (AP) Suspended Saints linebacker Jonathan Vilma filed a defamation lawsuit Thursday against NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, claiming the leagues top executive made false statements that tarnished Vilmas reputation and hindered his ability to earn a living playing football. The suit in U.S. District Court in New Orleans claims Goodell, relied on, at best, hearsay, circumstantial evidence and lies in making comments about Vilma while discussing the NFLs bounty investigation of the New Orleans Saints. Goodell has said Vilma was a leader of the teams bounty program that put up thousands of dollars for hits which took out opposing teams star players from 2009-11, including $10,000 each on then-Arizona quarterback Kurt Warner and then-Minnesota quarterback Brett Favre during the playoffs in 2010. Commissioner Goodell opted to make very public and unfortunately erroneous allegations against Jonathan, said Vilmas attorney, Peter Ginsberg. By making these false and public statements, he has significantly harmed Jonathans reputation and ability to make a living. By suing Commissioner Goodell in court, Jonathan opted to use a fair playing field where he has procedural rights and protections to remedy the harm Commissioner Goodell has done to him. Vilma wrote on his Twitter account that, As Ive said before..I NEVER PAID, NOR INTENDED TO PAY ANY AMOUNT OF MONEY, TO ANY PLAYER FOR INTENTIONALLY HURTING AN OPPONENT. Goodell has suspended Vilma, an eight-year veteran and defensive captain, for the entire 2012 season. Vilma and three other current of former Saints who received shorter suspensions defensive end Will Smith, defensive lineman Anthony Hargrove and linebacker Scott Fujita all have appealed their punishments. Hargrove now plays for Green Bay while Fujita is with Cleveland. We have not yet reviewed the filing, NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said. However, our commitment to player safety and the integrity of the game is our main consideration. We recognize that not everyone will agree with decisions that need to be made. The NFL also hired former federal prosecutor Mary Jo White in late 2011 to review its evidence in the case, and White has said the NFLs findings are corroborated by multiple independent witnesses as well as documentation.

Somber and quite, cyclists take to the streets of Kingman W

ith the sun setting on another warm spring day, they rode in a silent procession out of Kingman Academy Middle School 39 bicyclists lined up one-by-one heading south down Harrison. Some are young, others are old, some are cycling enthusiasts, and others are just casual riders. For some its the first time they straddled a bike since they got their drivers licenses when they turned 16. But regardless of who they are, they all have one thing in common. They either know someone who has been injured or killed while riding their bicycles on public roadways, or they have been injured or

A bicycle sits propped up against a rock in front of Kingman Academy Middle School Wednesday after 39 local bicyclists completed the Ride of Silence, a nationwide event that is designed to honor cyclists who have been injured or killed, while at the same time helping raise awareness to share the road with motorists. The cyclists completed a five-mile loop around Kingman, starting and finishing at KAMS.

harassed while riding on the road. But on this night, with the help of the Kingman Police Departments motorcycle patrol division, they ride to remember the estimated 600-700 bicyclists who are killed annually in the U.S. while riding on roadways. On this night they number many but they ride as one in honor of those not with them friends, mothers, fathers, sisters, and sons. Their helmets on tight and sunglasses dark to

cover their tears, they ride in silence to remember those they hold dear and to raise awareness that the road is there for all to share. They ride on Andy Devine, where the KPD motorcycle patrol officers speed up to block streets to ensure that every one has a safe ride tonight. They ride past the Reliant Mortgages electronic sign on the corner of Stockton Hill and Hope that reads, Watch for Bicycles. Share the road. They ride. Approaching Stockton Hill Road and Detroit, they are greeted by oncoming motorists. Some pull to the side of the road, others simply stop in the street as

they pay their respects to the fallen. They ride on to Airway, where even more motorists have either pulled to the side of the road or simply stopped in their tracks. While the purpose of this night is to remember and raise awareness of the need to share the road, on this night motorists have simply given cyclists free rein on the roads. They turn back onto Harrison; their five-mile journey through the streets of Kingman is almost over. They ride until they reach KAMS, where the journey began, and as each of the 39 riders return home, a bagpiper plays Amazing Grace to break the silence. Welcome home.
