1. Analysing the original system : There are three different queues for each region in the 1st and 3rd step. The arrival times are calculated based on the total # of applications divided by total time available in a quarter (410 hrs.) Service time is calculated based on the weighted mean time given in table in Appendix B. For example Region E&A service time is 390hrs (=2.8hrs*26+6.1hrs*52)

Figure 1: Initial setup

Figure 2: Calculation for Total time taken

We can see that E&A and Loan terms have got very high over all time in the system (102.50 hrs.). To reduce the time spent in the system we tried changing the 3 region specific queue to one single queue.

2. Analysis with one single queue and multiple stations

Figure 3 : Single Queue Configuration

Figure 4: Calculation for Total time taken The total time spent in the system has been reduced from 102.5 hrs. to 11.96hrs and 13.71 hrs respectively.

This kind of change in the structure will require proper monitoring. The company can have a web/online strategy that stretches from filling up the form, mailing it to the office to performing E&A and loan term calculation. Few particulars of the strategy follow

a. The company can have a portal using which the customers can fill up the loan forms and submit to the office immediately. This will save some effort and time either in faxing or overnight mailing.

b) Even acknowledging the complexity of E&A, some part of it can surely be automated. Particularly a system can be designed that will cross check the standard loan applications
