THE ADVANTAGE OF OXY-FUEL GAS CUTTING

Faster than mechanical methods, thus advantageous in high production runs. Curved shapes and thick sections can be cut. Low cost equipment when compared to mechanical tools.

Portability of process.
Can make abrupt changes in cut direction. Large pieces can be cut in place. Economical method for beveling weld joints

THE DISADVANTAGE OF OXY-FUEL GAS

Poor dimensional tolerances when compared to machine tools. Limited to readily oxidized metals (steel and cast iron). Safety hazards associated with flames and hot slag. Ventilation and fume control required. Hardenable steels may be damaged by OFC. Process must be modified for alloy steels and cast irons.

Cuts any type of electrically conductive metals including aluminum, copper, brass and stainless steel Cuts faster up to 130 in. per minute on 1/4 in. steel Does not require a pre-heat cycle which saves time and is more convenient Produces a small and more precise kerf (width of the cut) great when precision matters

THE ADVANTAGE OF PLASMA ARC CUTTING

Has a smaller heat affected zone which prevents the area around the cut from warping and minimizes paint damage
Provides gouging and piercing capabilities

THE DISADVANTAGE OF PLASMA ARC CUTTING

Its initial cost is very high.

The process requires over safety precautions which further enhance the initial cost of the setup.
Some of the work piece materials are very much prone to metallurgical changes on excessive heating so this fact imposes limitations to this process. It is uneconomical for bigger cavities to be machined.
