On a cold afternoon in east Lancashire, Burnley were looking to capitalize on the fact that only one of the championships top six were in action by closing the gap between themselves and those elusive play-off places. To do this they would have to beat a Birmingham side looking for their first win since Boxing Day. If the recent form book was anything to go by, this should have been a routine victory for the hosts and they started off the match fractionally better than the visitors. Danny Ings had the best chance of the opening 15 minutes but his header bounced agonisingly wide of Jack Butlands goal. Birmingham however took a surprise lead in the 21st minute. Curtis Davies connected brilliantly to Rob Halls corner to head in his 5th goal of the season, all of which have been headers. The hosts struggled to create chances after the Birmingham goal and it took them until the 41st minute to carve out a real opportunity. Chris MacCan took a deflected shot from inside the Blues penalty area which Butland did well to hold. In the second half Burnley came out the traps much better, with Sam Vokes and Junior Stanislas both having excellent chances to pull level. Burnley were rewarded though though ten minutes into the 2nd half with a penalty after Paul Robinson was adjudged to have fouled Stanislas. Ross Wallace coolly converted the spot kick to continue his impressive record against the Blues. Curtis Davies could then of had his second of the match but his header was straight at Lee Grant. The game then took a turn for the worse for Burnley as Dean Marney was given his marching orders for a horror tackle on Paul Robinson. Birmingham sensed that the game was there for the taking as Burnley continued to drop deeper, seemingly content with a point. Substitute Nicola

Zigic had to golden opportunities with his in the 85th and 87th minutes of the came he failed to find the back of the net. Il looked like Birmingham were going to leave Turf Moor frustrated but up popped Marlon King in the 90th minute . Wade Elliots cross was flicked on by Zigic before Marlon King rifled home the volley to send the 418 travelling Birmingham fans into disarray. This priceless win for Blues lifts them up three places in the table to 17th, meanwhile Burnley were unable to close the gap on the top six and remain in 8th place. Attendance : 11,576
