A new system design has been proposed describing the logic structure of differen t models comprising the IBM

System/ 360. The various design problems faced, deci sions on data format such as the character size, floating point word length etc, input and output controls and instruction set adopted for the system are discus sed in detail. Program compatibility between the different models of the system had to be taken in account and hence, new alternatives to resolve the issue has been used. A new approach for large capacity storage has been proposed in this system.
