Course Description: This course is required for all students, and is the entry-level course into the Dallas High School science program. This course is intended to provide activities that help students build on past experience and gain a clear insight into fundamental explanations, which underlie the natural phenomena that surrounds us in the universe. Topics: Motion and Speed Forces Energy Work and Machines Thermal Energy Required Supplies: Notebook an 8.5"x11" notebook (spiral or bound) to keep class notes and assignments. Calculator Pencil and/or Pen Textbook: Glencoe Science. Physical Science The Academic Grade: 75% of the Overall Grade The academic grade is used to represent the level at which students are learning the content of the class. Students will be given multiple opportunities to demonstrate that they have learned a concept. Unit Tests: Each unit of study will conclude with a summative test that covers the concepts and skills in the unit. Test Retakes: Students may retake any test. Retakes must be taken within 2 weeks of the day the test is handed back to the class. Cut-off dates will be posted on the board. A review assignment must be completed before retaking the test. Students will be awarded their highest test score. A different version of the test will be given for each retake. The Personal Management Grade: 25% of the Overall Grade

The Personal Management Grade is used to represent a students ability to be responsible, timely, organized, and attentive. Personal Management assignments are practice assignments, designed to prepare students for assessments. This includes homework assignments, labs, inclass assignments, and attendance. Grading Scale: A 100%-93% A92%-90% B+ 89%-87% B 86%-83% B82%-80% C+ 79%-77% C CD+ D DF 76%-73% 72%-70% 69%-67% 66%-63% 62%-60% 59%-0%

Classroom Expectations: My Two Big Rules: Participate Be Respectful Rules Drafted In Class: Food/drink are okay to have in class as long as the person is respectful about eating/drinking it. This means it should be eaten in a quiet manner and the mess should be cleaned up. Chairs pushed in and area clean before exiting class. No assigned seats unless decided necessary by Mr. Miller. Students may go to the bathroom with an extra credit bathroom pass.
