Field Trip Time!

The Kindergarten grade has a wonderful opportunity to take a field trip. I am very excited about taking this chance to enlighten my students lives by taking them to an art exhibit at the Childrens Museum in Downtown Charleston. The owner of this institution has chosen the Eagle Nest Kindergarten program to be the first to see this exhibit and to gain insight into this experience. Below is the field trip form. Please be sure to fill out the form, even if your student is not going on the field trip, and have the form turned in by December 14th as we will be going on this trip on the 18th. The cost for this trip is minimal ($8.00) for the buses. Also, please pack your students lunch for the day as we will not be back by lunchtime, but will be back in time for the end of the school day so that students may board the busses as normal.
Please check the boxes below that apply to your student. If you are a chaperone, you do not have to pay the field trip fee.

Important Information

SCIENCE
We have completed our study of plant cycles. The students did a lovely job with understanding the different steps of plants. We colored pictures of the different stages and put them in order. We also reinforced these steps by writing the steps underneath our pictures. I am so proud of how well the students did with cutting and gluing! They are also doing well with writing and using their phonetic skills that we practiced with our language study. We are now enhancing our scientific study of plants by not only coloring pictures of the plants and ordering the steps, but we will actually be growing our own plants! I have a few options for the seeds (listed below) but if students want a specific plant to grow, please bring those seeds in on Monday as that is when we will begin planting our seeds to watch them grow.

SOCIAL STUDIES
Though we do not have a specific time for social studies, we do work very diligently on this subject. This week, we are focusing in on their place in society. We are doing this by discussing our roles at home. This is a great way to help students understand their impact in the community as well as in their homes. Please discuss the following ideas with them to enhance what we are learning in class.

We have finally finished our study of letters, both uppercase and lowercase. We are now moving on to working on our popcorn words. This is the first time we will be able to put our letters together to sound out words. This will help us to not only know how to read and write these specific popcorn words, but also help us to understand how to sound out any word using the phonetic skills we practiced with our alphabet study. 1+1= Please review this weeks popcorn words with your students to help increase their knowledge 4+5= and understanding of these words so that they 3+5= can best succeed in class! 0+4=

Discussion Ideas
Where do you live? What do you do around the house? How can you help your family?

Mathematics
We will be continuing our work with addition. We now know how to count all the way to 100 and we will know how to add all numbers 1 through 10 by the end of the semester. How exciting!
