Costa Rica

Day One

First you will arrive at the Grano de Oro hotel. You will have a breakfast meal called Tico, which is black beans, rice, eggs, tortillas, sweet plantains, and cheese. You will then board a bus and drive two hours to Jaco beach where you will spend the day hiking and surfing. For lunch you will be served a choice of either American or Costa Rican food at Caf Del Mar in Jaco. Your afternoon of sightseeing will include the National Museum in San Jose. Here you will see the mysterious Costa Rican spheres.(They are famous spheres, however, no one knows what they were used for, perhaps you will come up with the answer!). You will also visit a Costa Rican government building: Cultural Capital. Your day will end with dinner; Mexican food at the Aqui cal- mex restaurant.

Day two

First, you will start the day with breakfast from the Grano de Oro restaurant. Then start the morning early with an exciting adventure! You will take a tour of the Arenal Volcano. To this Volcano, you can either hike, horse back ride, mountain bike, or go on a rafting tour. You will be provided with a lunch of authentic Costa Rican food rice, chicken and beans wrapped up in a soft tortilla shell. The second half of your day will provide you with an education! It will be packed with learning. You will go to the Costa Rican Gold Museum to learn about Costa Ricas past. You could learn that the first president was Jose Joaquin Rodriquez and that San Jose was founded in 1736. You can also find history that tells you Christopher Columbus founded Costa Rica in 1502.

Day three

You will start the day with a breakfast at Caf Mundo. Then you will go to Museum de Arte Costarricense. To see the countrys most famous art. You will also visit another museum in Alajuela, Costa Ricas second largest city, the Juan Santamaria Museum. It is a museum named after a boy who died trying to stop the threat of the attack of William Walker against Costa Rica in 1856. For your afternoon itinerary, you will go on an outdoor adventure at the Arenal Volcano to swim in a natural hot spring at the beautiful Arenal Volcano Inn. And for your dinner you will be eating at le Papillion.

Day four

You will start your day meeting with some natives of Costa Rica. You will learn more about the countrys culture and daily life, such as their most popular dance Punto Guanacaste. You will also learn about their most popular religion roman catholic and their festivals such as full moon party and New years day. You will eat a hearty breakfast of eggs, milk, local cheeses and sausage at Casa Abierta restaurant. You will then explore and celebrate the countrys culture by joining a game of soccer, Costa Ricas most popular sport! After soccer you will eat lunch at Park Caf and then head off to visit the Jade museum. This was once a prison from 1910 to 1979. Jade was very important in Costa Rica. Most of the jade artifacts have been found in burials and the use of jade was not as popular after A.D. 500-600 when gold became the newest mineral.

Day five adventure day

For your last day in beautiful Costa Rica you will visit the fabulous and stunning Lake Arenal. The last day of adventure you will go to Lake Arenal for kayaking and biking at the 1,670 meter volcano. Then you will have a quick lunch at Pizza Antica and a ice cream at Pops. You will then head back to the Arenal Volcano to go on a Venado caves tour. After you will have a fancy dinner at la Princesa Mariana.
