Summary of FAFSA Processing Statistics


January 1, 2005 — December 31, 2005

The following is a summary of FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) processing
statistics for the electronic and paper FAFSA.

As of December 31, 2005:

 Over 12.7 million students had submitted the FAFSA.

 Eighty-nine percent (over 11.2 million students) of the filers submitted the FAFSA
electronically. The share of students who submitted the electronic FAFSA in 2005
increased by 12.7 percent.

 The percentage of students filing the paper FAFSA decreased from approximately 2.4
million to 1.4 million, a 40 percent decrease from 2005.
