Grade 4 Overview Sunday 03/02/2013 Thursday 07/02/ 2013. We will be working on story writing this week, encouraging the students to use their imaginations to create interesting and grade appropriate writing. We will also be introducing compound words. A compound word is a word that is made up of two smaller words. Ex: bath and room form the compound word bathroom. We are starting Unit 6 Division This week we will work through lessons 6.1-6.4 where we will begin to understand how division works and introduce remainders to the students. Practice with your child at home using the fact triangles. Instead of covering the top number, cover one of the side numbers to have them think about the division fact sentence. Ex 72 divided by 9 equals 8
Central idea: Inventors utilize energy in the development of technologies that meet the needs of a society. Lines of inquiry: The needs of a society Inventors that have impacted society How inventors utilize resources to meet a societies needs Now that we have unpacked our new central idea we will begin to investigate inventions that we utilize(use) today and how the world would be different without them. Encourage your child to identify inventions you use at home and ask them what the world would be like without them.
