POLICY: EXAMINATION ENTRY POLICY

AIMS
To enable students to have certification to show they have studied and met the criteria to
pass and be graded in public examination.

• To sit internal and mock exams in preparation for public exams


• To ensure the criteria for the examination are met
• To ensure students are rewarded properly for their efforts and can go onto higher or
further education or work

The students following GCSE, ‘A’ level, AS level, BTec GNVQ, VCE, Cache and any other
external course will be entered for external examinations (including module and unit tests) in
those subjects they are taking provided they have met the following criteria.

1. They have achieved a satisfactory mark in the mock examinations and have worked
satisfactorily throughout the course.

2. They have attended the lessons (including after school lessons if necessary) and
completed a one or two year course. Sixth form students who are resiting English and
maths must attend the lessons provided by the school and those students who are taking
longer than the normal one or two years must also attend lessons. Students must have a
reasonable attendance if they are to sit a module or unit test.

3. They have completed any necessary coursework or assignments which form part of the
course.

4. They have not previously missed an external examination without a satisfactory reason.

5. They have failed to pay for an examination for which payment was requested.

6. They have sat the subject or module examinations on two previous occasions and failed
to improve their grade. It is up to the school whether to allow a student to sit a module or
unit examination on more than 2 occasions.

7. They are the subject of serious disciplinary procedure within the school.

8. If the examination is modular then they have satisfactory grades in at least one of the
modules that they have sat previously before sitting the final examination.

9. The student must have followed all the examination rules in previous examinations in the
school and not been disqualified from an examination for any reason.

Payment

Exam entry is normally free the exceptions are:

• Students whose parents/guardians wish them to sit an exam against the teachers advice
e.g. not having completed coursework etc.
• Students out of age
• External students
