Senator Leah Vukmir called for a criminal investigation into a foster care agency, Community Care Resources, Inc., which had its license revoked by the Department of Children and Families. An audit found that over a three-year period, CCR misused close to $5 million in taxpayer money for personal expenses like salaries, travel, homes, vehicles and boats instead of foster care programs. Both Senator Vukmir and Senator Rob Cowles believe the case shows criminal behavior and theft from programs meant to help Wisconsin's most vulnerable citizens. They feel a full review by the Legislative Audit Bureau and potential prosecution is needed to protect foster children and stop the fraud.

Foster Care Agency Should Be Criminally Investigated
(Madison, WI) The Department of Children and Families are revoking the license of Community Care Resources, Inc. for allegedly misusing close to $5-million of taxpayer money over a three-year period for personal gain. CCR is a foster care agency based in Middleton. Senator Leah Vukmir (R-Wauwatosa) is the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Health and Human Services. According to the documents I reviewed, the state was billed for inflated salaries, personal expenses and travel, as well as payments toward their homes, vehicles and boats. I urge the Department of Justice and our Attorney General to take action so justice will be served. The audit launched by DCF and completed last month showed that CCR used public funds for substantial unallowable costs and mostly for personal use. This case is a growing pattern of criminal behavior; stealing from programs designed for Wisconsins most vulnerable citizens. We must put an end to these fraudulent activities. Senator Rob Cowles (R-Green Bay) is the Co-Chairman of the Joint Legislative Audit Committee. The use of any taxpayer money for personal gain is unacceptable. I feel that a full review of the program by the Legislative Audit Bureau and potential prosecution by the Department of Justice is in order to protect Wisconsin's foster children. The fraud, theft and abuse of Wisconsin's programs will not be tolerated." ###
