    Council President Gloria Lauds Dr. Irwin Jacobs for Balboa Park Vision, Philanthropy
    SAN DIEGO, CA (February 5, 2013) Council President Todd Gloria today issued a statement lauding Dr. Irwin Jacobs, after the philanthropist announced he will no longer pursue plans to restore the Plaza de Panama area of Balboa Park to a pedestrian esplanade. Dr. Irwin Jacobs deserves the thanks of all San Diegans for his vision and dedication to improving Balboa Park, said Council President Todd Gloria. I am grateful for his Committee's valiant efforts and was pleased to have tried to make the vision of reclaiming the park's central core for people instead of cars a reality. Balboa Park will always be San Diegos crown jewel, but it will be missing a gem for now. ###
