An interval is the distance between two notes. We have concentrated on one

interval, the 2nd (whole-step, half-step and enharmonics). It is called a 2nd
because there are 2 note names next to each other on the staff (E to F, A to Bb)
The next interval is the 3rd. It is called a 3rd because there are 3 notes involved
(G, A (the skipped note) and B). Look at other examples of 3rds. Notice 3rds
extend from a line to the next line or a space to the next space.
