Combustion systems of high-speed piston I. C.

engines
Description/Abstract
The aim of this monograph is to show how certain definite requirements imposed on the internal combustion engine (e.g. low fuel consumption or low emission toxicity) are decisive in choosing the manner in which combustion processes operate, which in turn, determines the combustion system. The author defines combustion system as including all elements designed for the formation and combustion of the mixture and for controlling related processes in the engine, i.e. the combustion chamber, the fuel system, inlet and outlet ports and ducts, and the ignition system. Attention is focused on the most important part of the system, i.e. on the combustion chamber or - more strictly the combustion space. The book deals primarily with automotive engines but where relevant the discussion is extended to engines with other applications, with special reference to aircraft propulsion.
