Dr. Carroll Harrison Braddy: A Community Health Focus in Haiti An entrepreneurially focused Atlanta educator and minister, Dr.

Carroll Harrison Braddy served as CEO and founder of Braddy Preparatory Academy. He is also a longtime community medicine and health care advocate who has authored the bestselling book Shifting the Paradigm. Through the Braddy Preparatory Academys parent company Education System Management, Inc., Dr. Braddy is currently spearheading a Community Healthcare Mission that will assist people in Haiti and the Dominican Republic. The need for sustained solutions is particularly acute in Haiti, which has a rural-based economy that is decades behind many of its Caribbean neighbors. Decades of government and international donor neglect notably contributed to the outsized health crisis that followed the 2011 Port-au-Prince earthquake. In particular, social services were decimated and the nation thrown into chaos because of political infighting following the overthrow of Jean-Bertrand Aristide in 2004. At the time of the 2011 earthquake, a U.N. peacekeeping mission was just beginning to restore social stability to the nation and Doctors Without Borders operated three health centers in the country. The earthquake and the horrific toll it took on human life brought renewed international commitment to rebuilding Haitis health services infrastructure from organizations such as the International Red Cross. For veteran leaders such as Dr. Carroll Harrison Braddy, community health implies a long term commitment to developing collaborative partnerships with local Haitian groups who can train physicians and aid workers, and administer basic health services.
