Algebra I

August 20, 2012 Greetings! Welcome to Algebra I with Mr. Monroe. I am eager to begin the journey of passing the Algebra End of Course Exam and helping you to build a strong mathematical foundation. This course includes many concepts that you will explore in future mathematics courses and in real-world situations. In efforts to help you succeed on the end of course exam and prepare for future mathematics classes, we will follow the Next Generation Sunshine State Standards (NGSSS). These standards were adopted by our state to ensure we adequately cover topics pertinent to Algebra I. Topics that we will cover this year include: Expressions, Equations and Functions Linear Equations and Functions Linear Inequalities Systems of Linear Equations and Inequalities Polynomials Monomials and Factoring Quadratic and Exponential Functions Radical Functions and Geometry Radical Functions and Equations During class time, I ask that you remain observant by paying attention to the lecture, participating in class explorations/activities, asking questions and working on assigned tasks. I strongly believe in classroom discourse and working together to solve problems. This is a team effort and will require you to remain engaged, explorative and always ready to explain your mathematical reasoning. I do not expect that we will have many behavior issues, nevertheless we will follow the GHS student handbook and the ACPS student code of conduct in these matters. We will also follow the student handbook for attendance policies and completing missed assignments/assessments. The following activities will contribute to your grade (and posted on Infinite Campus): Assessments 50% Homework 25% Participation 15% Bell-work 10% I am here to help all of my students succeed and am willing to help before and after school. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me or schedule a meeting. By working together, I believe our students will excel and achieve!
