amount of electric energy consumed by a residence, business, or an electrically powered device. Electricity meters are typically calibrated in billing units, the most common one being the kilowatt hour [kWh].
Unit of Measurement
The most common unit of measurement on the electricity meter is the
kilowatt hour, which is equal to the amount of energy used by a load of one kilowatt over a period of one hour.

Electromechanical meters
The most common type of electricity meter is the
electromechanical induction watt-hour meter or Thomson or electromechanical induction invented by Elihu Thomson in 1888. Operates by counting the revolutions of an aluminum disc which is made to rotate at a speed proportional to the power. The number of revolutions is thus proportional to the energy usage. It consumes a small amount of power, typically around 2 watts.
Electronic meters
Display the energy used on an LCD or LED
Electronic meters can also record other
parameters of the load and supply such as maximum demand, power factor and reactive Energy etc. Can support Time-of-day billing, for example, recording the amount of energy used during onpeak and off-peak hours.(Multi-Tariffs)
metering IC and ST microcontroller. The project board will be a fully functional single-phase solution with different parameters.
That efficiently and securely stores, controls and transfers the measurements.
LCD for display.

Our Goal
We are going to implement a meter which wills measure:
RMS Voltage RMS Current Active power Energy usage (Kilowatt-Hours) Line Frequency
Project scope
This would be an excellent product for power distribution companies
and by using enhanced features used in the product, different parameters can be measured and monitored. Moreover, other issues like tamper management, maximum demand (MD) calculation can also be addressed. It will be a challenging task for us to measure and calculate parameters more precisely.
