1. Describe the process of cellular respiration
 Cellular respiration is the process that releases energy by breaking down
glucose and other food molecules in the presence of oxygen.

2. What are the products of glycolysis?

 2 Molecules of pyruvic acid, a 3-carbon compound

3. Name the two main types of fermentation.

 Alcoholic Fermentation
 Lactic Acid Fermentation

4. What is a calorie? A Calorie?

 A calorie is the amount of energy needed to raise the temperature of 1
gram of water by 1 degree Celsius
 A Calorie is a term used by scientists to measure the energy stored in
foods; 1,000 calories

5. How is the function of NAD+ similar to that of NADP+?

 Like NADP+ in photosynthesis, each NAD+ accepts a pair of high-energy
electrons

6. How are lacticacid fermentation and alcoholic fermentation similar? How are they
different?
 The different fermentations are similar because the reactants in both lactic
acid fermentation and alcoholic fermentation are pyruvic acid and NADH.
A difference between the two is that lactic acid fermentation produces
lactic acid while alcoholic fermentation produces alcohol.

Mixed acid fermentation is a characteristic fermentation of members of family

Enterobacteriaceae
Mixed acid fermentation results in the formation of:

i. lactic acid
ii. ethanol
iii. formic acid
iv. succinic acid
