Strauss Brahms

Saturday 23 March, 7.30pm

Anita Watson soprano Gerard Collett baritone Dulwich Festival Orchestra Directed by Aidan Oliver
The most human and humane of all Requiem settings, the German Requiem by Johannes Brahms dwells on the bereaved as much as the departed, in music that combines serenity with blazing intensity. Outstanding soprano Anita Watson opens the concert with the sumptuous Four Last Songs, Richard Strausss last completed work, and some of the most haunting music ever written. Early booking is recommended.
One of the brightest stars to emerge from the Young Artist Programme at the Royal Opera House, Australian soprano Anita Watson has made her debuts at La Fenice in Venice, Sydney Opera House, the Salzburg Landestheater and at Covent Garden in roles including Donna Anna, Gretel and Mimi. A superb Strauss singer, she has recorded the Four Last Songs for the Mariinsky Orchestra in St Petersburg.
